School of Seven Bells
Poplife presents a live performance by SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS
School of Seven Bells is a dream pop/shoegaze band which formed in 2007 in Brooklyn, New York, United States. The band consists of identical twin sisters Alejandra Deheza (vocals, bass), Claudia Deheza (vocals, keyboards) and Benjamin Curtis (guitar). The Deheza sisters are former members of On!Air!Library! and Curtis is a former member of Secret Machines and Tripping Daisy. The band is named after the School of the Seven Bells, a mythical South American pickpocket training academy.
with special guests ACTIVE CHILD
Active Child is the new project from choirboy-turned-indie pop musician Pat Grossi. His debut collection of songs features the skilled use of various 80s-tinged synths to create ethereal, soaring soundscapes, punctuated by crisp electronic drum samples and handclaps. All of this lays the groundwork for Grossi’s exquisite vocals, which, with their unearthly sound and evocative lyrics, take on an enchanting, hymnal quality that would not be out of place amongst the richly colored sunlight of a church’s stained-glass interior.

SLOW ROAST RECORDS SHOWCASE | Saturday, September 18th
SLOW ROAST RECORDS SHOWCASE
POPLIFE + GRAND CENTRAL in association with SCION, TRAKTOR and aLife bring you The SLOW ROAST Showcase with another killer lineup!!!!
Served up by none other than the legendary DJ Craze and avant-garde producer extraordinaire Kill The Noise, Slow Roast is a label that will showcase a whole lot of amazing music across many genres. The label is distributed by A-Trak and Nick Catchdub’s highly regarded Fool’s Gold Records. With a list of influential names like that working behind the scenes, it’s got everyone asking a lot of questions!
The Showcase will feature
CRAZE : DJ Craze was born in Managua, Nicaragua. At the age of 3, in 1980, he fled the country with his family during the war which lasted throughout the 1980s. Craze and his family moved to San Francisco, California, where they lived for a short while, before moving to Miami, Florida, where he currently resides.
The style of his music carries many of his past musical influences. Initially influenced by the Miami Bass movement when he was younger, Craze has gone on to incorporate elements of hip-hop, drum n bass, and breaks in his turntable routines. Recently, Craze has shifted his emphasis to DJ’ing and producing drum n bass with his own record label “Cartel”.
Craze released his first album in 1999, Crazee Musick, and a second in 2002, Scratch nerds. He also released an album called D-Day in 2002 with his turntable crew, The Allies.
Craze has released two of the most popular battle records ever, “Bully Breaks” and “Bully Breaks 2?.
Craze was Kanye West’s DJ for his Glow in the Dark tour in 2008.
KILL THE NOISE : From Los Angeles, California, Jake Stanczak better known as Kill The Noise has exploded into the Electro House scene, since he launched the project in January of ‘08. His productions have earned him recognition from both house music fanatics and world class DJ’s alike. Success in the studio has created many interesting opportunities for the young producer. Most notably a busy worldwide touring schedule, a record label partnership with the infamous DJ Craze, and most recently an invitation to perform on Tiesto’s Kaleidoscope World Tour in North America.
KLEVER : DJ Klever (born Josh Winkler) is an Atlanta-based turntablist/DJ and member of the Allies, a turntablist collective. Winkler has noted the mixing and scratching arrangements of DJ Premier and Jazzy Jeff as prominent influences of his turntable techniques. Shortly after forging ties with the Allies, Klever and fellow crew member Craze released Scratch Nerds in 2002. He’s since released two battle-break records with DJ Shotgun (former Goodie Mob DJ) — Dirty South Breaks and Get Crunk Breaks — while nabbing production credits on Rob Swift’s Sound Event and Bubba Sparxxx’s Deliverance.
12th PLANET : After conquering the world as drum and bass phenomenon Infiltrata, John Dadzie found a new name, a new sound and a new family in SMOG. Now incinerating dance floors under the moniker 12th Planet, he has become the most in demand dj in LA and quickly becoming America’s first King of Dubstep . Like Nibiru, the mysterious orb of the ancients whose handle he shares, 12th Planet flies perpendicular to the system, choosing to rotate on his own orbit with off-axis beats and sets that always deliver.
SEÑOR STEREO : Formed in 2007 by Danny Daze, Joe Maz & Gigamesh, a new alias was molded under the name DiscoTech. First made to expand their young musical rolodex, DiscoTech is now a go-to for major record labels such as Atlantic & Universal for their remixes. This being the side to Daze not many saw coming. Being able to deliver remixes for the commercial ear. From remixes for Donna Summer to Kanye West, DiscoTech is a staple for Djs around the world.
Meanwhile another alias was being created when the group started producing their own original music. Staying true to who they are, “Señor Stereo” was born in 2009 with releases on Ministry of Sound, Kitsune & their first EP titled “Unintentional Ep” on Slow Roast Records. This sound is heavily constructed by arpeggiated disco bass lines and Vangelis influenced synths.

Crystal Castles Live | Saturday September 11th
Easily contenders to top every end-of-the-year poll for the amazingly superb follow-up to 2008′s Crystal Castles, for the similarly named Crystal Castles (AKA Crystal Castles II), Ethan Kath and Alice Glass have shed the electro-house label and positioned themselves as true electronic music pioneers.
Their 2009 performance at Ultra Music Festival was almost vulgar for pushing the limits of what is acceptable “dance music.”
Glass drunkenly stumbled across the stage, screaming unintelligible vocals for songs like “Courtship Dating,” “Yes No,” and “Crimewave.”
